Profile - Niki Mair

Niki's passion is dance, whether it be performing, teaching or choreographing. Having grown up in Aberdeen, Niki showed a talent and love for dancing from the age of two, taking classes in any form of dance she could get into - ranging from Highland, Ballet, and Tap to Freestyle Disco. Going down the competitive route, she then decided to concentrate on the more grounded dance styles; she gave up Freestyle but added Scottish National and Street into her dance life. As she grew, so did her love for dance and she was thrilled by the age of 18 to be accepted to study dance professionally at Ecosse Performers College.

Working under the ISTD and RAD, Niki studied classes in Modern, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre. After completing a three-year course, she gained her DDI qualification in Modern and Tap, as well as performing in many successful shows with the college.

Niki then went off to audition for dance work, as well as working alongside Lee and Jacqueline at Danz Creations. She was delighted to be able to help choreograph numbers at Danz Creations for their very successful shows and she has also managed to qualify as a teacher under the BATD in highland, tap and ballet.

In 2013, Niki accepted an offer to fulfil her dream to teach and perform in New Zealand. She performed professionally with Pump Dance Studios and taught Modern, Ballet and Musical Theatre for Wellington Girls College and Dance New Zealand. Niki was also lucky enough to get a place to dance with The Royal New Zealand Ballet, something she will never forget.

Making the decision to the return to Aberdeen, Niki was delighted to be offered a full-time teaching position with Danz Creations. This would enable her to pass on her love, passion and knowledge of dance and performance to the pupils whilst being able to continue doing something she loves. In 2014, Niki introduced modern into the Danz Creations timetable.

Niki is currently studying to gain more teaching qualifications whilst keeping up to date with all genres of dance by attending courses/workshops so she can offer the best to the students.
